An
example of research supported by the Foundation is the Hannan
Study of Older Adults in Detroit's Central City that was completed
in 2001. The study was a scientific survey of over 600 seniors
living in the central core of the City of Detroit. It was developed
in collaboration with the 25 service providers who are members
of the Aging Services Consortium of Detroit. The researcher's
who conducted the study were from Wayne State University's Center
for Healthcare Effectiveness Reseach and Institute of Gerontology.
The
goal of the study was to assess the availability of social services
for aging adults in the central city, and to measure whether
those services were being used effectively by the senior population
of central Detroit. The results of this study has provided valuable
information for the Foundation and many other service providers
and policy makers in Detroit. It also led to the City
of Detroit's "Facing the Future - Needs Assessment of Older
Adults" that was conducted by the same team of researchers
and completed in 2002.
