ELLEN KAYROD GALLERY

Named after former Executive Director Ellen Kayrod, the Gallery at Hannan House has been exhibiting the work of Detroit-area artists age 60 and up since the early 1990s. Local artist Mary Herbeck has been the Curator of exhibitions since July 2003. 

      The Hannan Cafe provides an additional exhibition space for elder artists.  Solo and small group shows are installed bi-monthly.

July 10 – August 21, 2009: 6th Annual Intergenerational Community Exhibition

This is an annual invitational exhibit that features the work of artists of all ages who are active members of the Detroit art community.  Participants in this year’s Intergenerational Community Exhibition are:

Christine Bossler, Barbara Dorchen, Jerome Ferretti, Ray Katz, Emily Linn, Nicole MacDonald, Mario Moore, Sabrina Nelson,
SiouxTrujillo, and Anahli Vazquez. The artists range from the young and emerging to the established veterans, and their work includes body ornament, paintings, sculpture, installation, assemblage, collage, drawings and photography.  An evening reception with the artists is scheduled for Friday July 10th from 5-8pm

August 28 – October 9, 2009: The Art of Aging Biennial.  This all-media exhibit includes the work of Detroit-area artists age 60 and over.  The exhibit will help create an awareness of the connection between creativity and healthy aging as participating artists’ statements suggest why they believe there is such a correlation.  An afternoon reception with the artists is scheduled for Friday August 28th from 12:30 - 2:30pm.  More details to be announced.

October 16 – November 27, 2009: .  NEW WORK BY Robert Bielat
An evening reception with the artist is scheduled for Friday October 16th, from 5-8pm.  Details to be  announced.

December 4, 2009 - January 15, 2010: 7th Annual Sight Fest: All Media Group Exhibition.  An afternoon reception with the artists is scheduled for Friday December 4th, from 12:30-2:30pm, and will include a performance by acoustic guitarist JB Davies.  More details to be announced.
