CURRENT AND UPCOMING GALLERY EXHIBITIONS:

May 9 - June 20, 2008:  WORLD UNDER THE WOODS:
New work by Sandra Cardew and Yoriko Hirose Cronin.

Untitled constructions in cloth; Sandra Cardew                      Bird Mother; S. Cardew

One August Day in G.A., II & III; Japanese woodblock prints, thread, stampings; Yoriko Hirose Cronin

Sandra Cardew’s method of producing constructions, collages and paintings of figures, anthropomorphic forms and tableaus is inspired in part by her past experience in the theater.  Delicately detailed yet powerfully emotive, her imagery creates “a symbolic, archetypal language reflective of the human experience”.

Yoriko Hirose-Cronin’s
work includes Japanese woodblock prints, known as Moku Hanga in her native homeland.  She incorporates thread and stampings into the vivid subject matter, and her work represents an “effort to direct the intangible emotions to the level which can reveal consciousness”.  While the work of these two artists differs on many levels it is united by a similar sensibility and awareness.

A reception with the artists is scheduled for Friday May 9th, from 5:30-8:30pm and will include a performance by acoustic fingerstyle guitarist JB Davies.  More details to be announced.
